UMAC Fall Training 2022
The University of Michigan Asylum Collaborative (UMAC) is an interdisciplinary group of medical students, physicians, and legal professionals who advocate for victims and survivors of human rights violations and provide pro bono forensic medical evaluations for asylum applicants throughout Michigan. However, an increasing number of asylum seekers has led to the need to expand our pool of trained clinicians for these evaluations.
We invite you to participate in this year's training, Evaluating Survivors of Torture & Other Human Rights Violations: Clinicians and Student Training from 9:00 am – 12:00pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
This training will equip you with the skills and materials needed to evaluate and document the physical and psychological sequelae of human rights abuses in survivors seeking humanitarian protection in the United States. After training, physicians and medical students can sign up to conduct forensic evaluations and draft medical affidavits to provide supporting evidence for the asylee and lawyer's case.
Date: Saturday, November 12, 2022
Time: 9am - 12pm
Location: THSL 6000
Please feel free to email Kelly Beharry at kbeharry@med.umich.edu with any questions! We hope you are able to attend.
We are connected with Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), and wanted to provide a video explaining more in detail what PHR does and how medical evaluations are impactful around the world.
